Night at the Museum | The Whitney
Opened in 2015, the Whitney Museum of American Art's new window-filled home at the foot of the High Line, where West Village turns to Meatpacking District, is a work of art in and of itself. Designed by Renzo Piano, the building mixes tall, open floor layouts with creative outdoor spaces for a viewing experience equally as exciting inside and out. The art itself is eclectic and inspiring, spanning American interpretations of modernism, pop art, abstraction and portraiture—often relaying era-specific social messages. As you walk the halls you're sure to be struck by the relevance of those messages—some 50 or 100 years old—today. The best time to take advantage of the new-look Whitney is on a Friday night, when the museum offers "pay what you want" admission from 7-10pm. Check out some of our favorite exhibits below.
