Holiday Reds | INTRINSIC Wine Co.
Festive and always in style, red wine is the preeminent drink of choice at holiday gatherings for good reason. This holiday season celebrate with the wine that's breaking the rules of traditional winemaking in all the right ways—INTRINSIC Wine Co. Made in the rolling vineyards of Washington state, but designed for the bold urban crowd, INTRINSIC wines are crafted by esteemed winemaker Juan Muñoz-Oca using innovative techniques to great effect. The newly released 2016 Red Wine Blend uses an extended maceration of 9 months, while aged Cabernet Franc grapes on Malbec skins and Malbec grapes on Cabernet Franc skins combine to create bold and unique flavors that grow more complex with each sip. The wine opens with notes of white tea leaves, raspberry, mint and lavender and layers in flavors of milk chocolate, fig, plum and licorice root as it hits the palate.
While the Red Blend is certainly a crowd pleaser, the belle of the ball is INTRINSIC's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon. Boasting 90 points from Wine Enthusiast, the Cabernet has a refined nose with aromas of leather and cherries—signature of Washington-grown Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Tones of blueberry jam, pomegranate and chocolate round out a silky texture and savory finish. Ten percent of the wine is fermented in concrete tanks, adding a distinct mineral character to each bottle. Juan Muñoz-Oca has demonstrated the artistic nature of his winemaking process, but even INTRINSIC's bottles are an art form, adorned with original designs by Brooklyn street artist ZIMER and his patented Wild Style technique.
