When it comes to men’s tailoring, there isn’t a more ubiquitous wardrobe essential than the navy suit. Effortlessly versatile, the navy suit is often the first foray into tailoring for most gentlemen. But as you get a little older that notch lapel, slightly too big in the shoulders suit you picked out for your first job starts to feel a bit dated, and the search for an upgrade begins. Over the past few years the made-to-measure boom has taken the suiting world by storm and one of the best in the business is Australia-based InStitchu.
Boasting showrooms across Australia, InStitchu’s convenient Flatiron District location in Manhattan is the brand’s first stateside outpost. Constructed from 100% Australian Merino wool, InStitchu’s suits feel as good as they look. The beauty of custom suiting is the chance to be as creative or classic as you want, and when I decided to upgrade my navy suit I wanted a design that met somewhere in the middle. I chose details like peak lapels, pick stitching and a ticket pocket to add touches of personality to the classic two-button silhouette. The fit of the suit came out spectacularly well thanks to expert measuring by the showroom staff. I can’t I can’t wait to dive deeper into InStitchu’s expansive book of fabrics for the next suit.
