How to Style the White Linen Jacket
How to Style the White Linen Jacket
Once reserved for formalwear, this jacket can breathe new life into your warm-weather tailoring lineup.
When picturing the white dinner jacket your first thought might be Humphrey Bogart in “Casablanca” or Daniel Craig’s first turn as James Bond in “Casino Royale.” Both are impeccable demonstrations of how to wear the white dinner jacket as it has classically been worn: for black tie. But it’s a shame to sideline this statement piece until those rare formal occasions, which is my I designed this casual linen version with the Proper Cloth team.
Linen tailoring is of course key to surviving the heat of summer in New York, and the fabric is a breathable, surprisingly sturdy and wrinkle-resistant, Irish Linen. Technically the color is ivory, which I prefer over pure white because it’s a little more subtle and easier to clean. I wanted it to be as versatile as possible so I could dress it down, with light wash jeans and a t-shirt for instance, so I opted for Proper Cloth’s unconstructed build with no shoulder or chest padding. In this case I paired it with high-rise double-pleated Black Irish Linen trousers and a cream polo for a polished evening look, but there are so many possibilities when it comes to styling this beauty.
